In order to achieve a better, tightly managed cool-chain for shipments coming from Ethiopia, we have set up a company in Ethiopia that arranges for temperature-controlled transport and logistical processing at Bole Airport (Addis Ababa). This company is called Ethiopian Perishable Logistics Plc (EPL), and is a joint venture with Akakas, Freshport and FloraHolland. J. van de Put has a 25% stake in EPL.
EPL can provide the following services:
Your products are picked up from growers using temperature-controlled trucks and taken to the airport. We visit each region on a daily basis, meaning there is no need for you to purchase a temperature-controlled truck yourself. Ethiopian Perishable Logistics Plc has 5 temperature-controlled trucks.
EPL has a perishable centre at Bole Airport (Addis Ababa). In this perishable centre, the products that were picked up by the temperature-controlled trucks or that were delivered straight to Bole Airport by the grower are received. Then, air cargo pallets are assembled in a temperature-controlled room. After this, they are stored in cold storage temporarily. Not until the very last minute are these cargo pallets delivered to the aircraft. This provides you with assurance that your products are being shipped at the right temperature and the recipient will receive them in the best possible condition.
